Embracing the Journey 2024: A Fresh Perspective on Mental Health

Woman jumping into 2024 with dreams, goals and courage

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to My First Leap Out of the Comfort Zone!

Hey there, I'm Diana — your unconventional guide through the fascinating world of mental health. Yes, I come with titles like Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, Qualified Supervisor, and Certified Telehealth Practitioner. But hey, let's put those shiny badges aside for a second because, just like you, I'm a patchwork of many labels. Here's the deal: our world is obsessed with labels, and more often than not, they end up defining our stories, trapping us in a loop of not-so-great thinking. And that's precisely why I'm here, and possibly why I'm kept so busy as a therapist!

But here's a plot twist: I've had to wrestle with my own set of labels and rewire some pretty stubborn thought patterns. Will I spill all the beans about my personal labels? Time will tell. However, the heart of the matter, the core reason behind this blog, is a calling — a whisper that turned into a roar after plenty of soul-searching and prayer. It's about reaching out to you, engaging with you, and perhaps even giving you a nudge out of your comfort zone.

So today, I'm punching the air with excitement as I hit 'publish' on my very first blog post. "Liberation Lunes" is not just a catchy name; it's a promise of freedom from those labels that hold us back. Why take the plunge into blogging? The reasons are as layered as we are complex.

The journey to launching this blog has been a blend of introspection and ambition. It’s about stepping beyond the familiar and pushing boundaries to reach new heights both personally and professionally. Yes, candidly speaking, a part of this endeavor is strategic; enhancing my digital presence to connect with those of you seeking guidance, and let's be real – it helps keep the lights on.

But this blog is more than a savvy career move. It's an invitation to share the collective wisdom I've gathered — both through my own healing and in guiding others to their personal summits. After thoughtful nudges from peers and clients, it's time to pass on the torch of knowledge I've been fortunate to carry.

New Year 2024 resolutions start new encouragement

And here's a little secret: I've harbored dreams of spinning words into gold as a writer, lyricist, perhaps even a poet. The crossroads of podcasting or blogging was a challenging one, but the path led here, to me typing away, aided by ChatGPT and the trusty thesaurus.

Leveraging technology like ChatGPT streamlines my process, freeing me to focus on creativity, rest, and cherished moments with loved ones. Some might call it a shortcut, but then again, isn't that what every innovative tool from calculators to smartphones has been criticized for?

Take it from someone who's dabbled in the art of digital creation (check out my two books of non-AI digital art and poetry at www.dianasrice.com — yes, that's a shameless plug). It's the intention behind the use that counts. I pour my heart into the framework provided by AI, then flesh it out with the essence of my experiences.

As we get acquainted, you'll get a taste of my unique brand of humor and the eclectic musings of my mind. So, do I live with mental illness? Some say yes. Life has thrown its share of curveballs, leaving scars of anxiety and depression. Yet, I also bask in moments where life feels perfect. Therapy? Been there. Psychiatry? Done that. And at 52, I've amassed a lifetime of stories that I'll share openly. Honesty, transparency, integrity, honor, and truth — these aren't just lofty ideals; they're the very core of my existence. And as for my skeletons? They're out of the closet, dancing to their own rhythm — sometimes in a steady flow, sometimes in a wild discord , but always true to life's pulse.

Trust is the foundation of any therapeutic relationship, and it starts with authenticity. I'm here, sleeves rolled up, ready to work with you. How can you trust me as your therapist, supervisor, or blogger if I am not wholly honest with you and myself?

A Different Approach to Mental Health

Throughout my practice, I've come to recognize that true mental health care transcends the rigid confines of traditional labels and diagnoses. Every individual is the author of a unique narrative, and it's my belief that their care should honor the richness of their personal story. This blog is an extension of that philosophy, where the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit forms the cornerstone of a holistic approach to well-being.

As we navigate the ebbs and flows of life's journey, my role is to offer support and guidance, fostering an environment where potential can be unlocked, and challenges met with resilience. Since starting my career in mental health in 2004, I've witnessed the industry's shortcomings and its moments of profound healing. These experiences have shaped my practice, guiding me towards a non-pathological approach to mental wellness that departs from the normative training of classrooms and community health settings.

It's here that we'll explore the depths of what mental health can truly be—free from the constraints of conventional thinking, and rich with the promise of growth and discovery. Together, we'll chart a course through the complex collage of the human experience, aiming not just to heal but to thrive.

What You Can Expect

Every week, starting on Mondays, I'm embarking on a fascinating journey I've dubbed "Liberation Lunes." You might be wondering, why call it that? Well, it's a fusion of mental well-being and my rich Spanish heritage. This blog series isn't just your run-of-the-mill read; it's a celebration of liberation – a liberation of the mind, body, and spirit – and it all begins every Monday.

Now, you might be curious about the name "Liberation Lunes." It has two key elements: "Lunes," which is Spanish for Monday, and "liberation," representing the freeing of ourselves from the shackles of everyday stress and emotional turmoil.

Here's an intriguing tidbit: "Lunes" and "lunatic" share a common root in the Latin word "luna," which means "moon." Historically, people believed that changes in the moon's phases could trigger bouts of insanity or heightened emotions, hence the term "lunatic."

Isn't it fascinating how Mondays, or "lunes," often feel like the days when chaos reigns? That's precisely why I've chosen this day to offer you something special to help you navigate those manic Mondays!

Each installment of "Liberation Lunes" is a step toward mental freedom, grounded in practical tools and resources that have played a pivotal role in my personal journey. I've discovered immense value in various sources, including the Bible for spiritual nourishment, books, podcasts, apps, websites, and even social media influencers for mental growth, as well as psychoeducational materials, foods, supplements, and eye-opening documentaries for physical well-being.

So, what can you expect from "Liberation Lunes"? Each week, I'll share one or two of these gems that have had a significant impact on my life. You'll get a Bible verse to uplift your spirit, a delightful recipe or invigorating exercise for your body, and an engaging book, podcast, or app to stimulate your mind. And, just for kicks, I'll throw in some sly remarks from my personal peanut gallery – that's just me being playful.

Now, I can't predict exactly how each week will unfold, but I've learned that when I immerse myself in the Bible and take time to pray, inspiration flows freely. It all begins with taking a leap of faith and silencing the doubts and worries that often plague us, like imposter syndrome, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, people-pleasing habits, anxiety, and depression. The outcome depends on how much self-care I've managed to squeeze into my week.

Now say this with me 10 times…and again out loud…lol!

So again “Liberation Lunes" is more than just a title; it's a weekly cultural embrace, a celebration of diversity, and an invitation to a holistic journey of healing and growth. Join me every Monday for insights and inspiration on this transformative path to mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. That is the plan as of now, but with life, I make plans, but the Lord establishes the steps. This blog will serve as a resource for anyone looking to understand themselves better and make meaningful changes in their lives. AND, to reiterate help my SEO…

Here’s what you can look forward to:

Self-Discovery and Empowerment: Learn to harness your inner strength and resilience.

Practical Wellness Tips: Effective strategies for maintaining mental and emotional balance.

Holistic Health Insights: Exploring how physical, emotional, and spiritual health are interlinked.

Success Stories: Inspirational tales of personal growth and transformation.

Embarking on this Journey Together

The power of community on our path to wellness is incredibly important. I want to encourage you to get involved, express your thoughts, and connect with others right here. Your insights and experiences can be a guiding light of hope and inspiration for everyone. I'll do my best to reply to your comments, but if I miss one, please don't take it personally. If you do take it personally, it might be an opportunity to reflect on your mindset, a great first step in your self-improvement journey. This situation brings to mind one of Carl Jung's famous quotes:

"Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves."

This quote showcases Jung's viewpoint on something called psychological projection. It means that how we react to others can be like a mirror, showing us parts of our own inner world and subconscious self.

Now, as we set out on this journey together through the twists and turns of our minds, let's approach the starting point with excitement. I'm truly thankful that you're willing to come along with me on this adventure with "Liberation Lunes." Together, we're going to explore the intricate landscape of human emotions and thoughts. Remember, "Through the Valley Therapy" isn't just the name of my practice; it's a commitment to stand by your side during the tough times and guide you toward reaching your full potential.

Each Monday's post will be our compass, pointing us toward the highest peaks of our dreams. We'll navigate the complexities of the human mind with bravery and empathy. My practice and this blog are all about "Walking with You to Your Mountaintop," recognizing that the journey to mental wellness is a shared expedition that's best tackled with support and shared wisdom.

I invite you to be part of this adventure, to share your own experiences, and to suggest the trails you'd like us to explore together. Let's uncover the paths that lead to a more fulfilling life filled with resilience and new perspectives. So, keep an eye out, reach out to others, and step forward with confidence. Here's to our collective journey – rising from the challenges we face in the valleys to the heights of our greatest well-being.
