How to Embrace Your Journey with Faith, Wellness, and Purpose

January 27th, 2024

Liberation Lunes

Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to move forward in life? You’re not alone. Many people struggle with balancing their mental health, faith, and personal goals. But here’s the good news: it’s never too late to start, and small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful change. In this post, I’ll share lessons from my journey as a therapist, CEO, and believer, along with practical tools to help you embrace your own path to growth.

Finding Purpose Through Reflection

Over a year ago, I published my first blog post. You can read it here. It marked the beginning of a journey I never imagined—stepping out in faith to share my voice through blogging, podcasting, and running Through the Valley Therapy (TTVT). While the challenges have been real, the growth has been equally rewarding, and I am continually humbled by the opportunity to serve others through my work.

Practical Tips to Overcome Overwhelm

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, here are a few ways to start shifting your mindset:

  1. Start Small: Break big goals into manageable steps. For example, if starting therapy feels intimidating, begin by researching local counselors or writing down what you hope to gain from therapy.

  2. Use Gratitude to Reframe Challenges: Write down three things you’re grateful for each day. Gratitude can shift your focus from what’s going wrong to what’s going well.

  3. Connect with Scripture: Spend quiet time with God’s Word. Verses like Galatians 1:10 remind us to focus on God’s approval, not the world’s.

  4. Move Your Body: Even a 10-minute walk can reduce anxiety and boost mood.

  5. Seek Support: Don’t try to do it all alone. Share your goals with a trusted friend, mentor, or coach who can encourage you.

A Faith-Driven Tool: My Prayer Board

One tool that has grounded me in prayer and purpose is my 2025 Faith and Wellness Prayer Board. You can learn about it here. Every morning, I take this board to the Lord in prayer, focusing on the verses I’ve included. It’s a visual reminder of my goals and God’s promises.

I even dedicated a podcast episode to this topic—listen to it here. If you’ve never created a prayer board, I encourage you to try it. Center it on scripture, your values, and the areas where you feel God is calling you to grow.

Lessons from Failure

Failure isn’t the end—it’s a teacher. Here’s how to turn setbacks into stepping stones:

  • Identify Growth Opportunities: Ask, “What did this teach me?” Write down actionable steps for next time.

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Even small progress is progress. Recognizing these moments builds confidence.

  • Set Intentional Goals: Use what you’ve learned to create goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART).

Journaling Prompt: Reflecting on Growth

Take 10 minutes to journal about a challenge you’ve faced recently. Ask yourself:

  • What did this experience teach me about myself?

  • How did I see God’s hand in this situation?

  • What is one small step I can take today to move forward?

Journaling can help you process emotions, gain clarity, and create a sense of purpose even in difficult times.

Why Holistic Mental Health Matters

As a therapist, I believe in a holistic approach to mental health. This means addressing the mind, body, and spirit as interconnected parts of our well-being. Here are a few ways to apply this to your daily life:

  • Mind: Challenge negative thoughts using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. For example, when a thought like, “I’ll never be good enough” arises, replace it with, “I am capable and learning every day.”

  • Body: Incorporate movement into your day, whether it’s yoga, a walk, or simple stretches.

  • Spirit: Dedicate time to prayer, journaling, or meditating on scripture. Reflect on how God is working in your life.

Mission, Vision, and Networking

Creating mission and vision statements for my blog and businesses gave me clarity and purpose. These statements remind me why I do this work: to empower others to embrace growth, healing, and their God-given potential. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals has also been vital in staying motivated. Networking isn’t just about connections—it’s about community and accountability.

Your Journey Starts Today

You don’t have to wait for the perfect moment to start—small steps today can create a ripple effect for tomorrow. Begin by taking one intentional action, no matter how small, that aligns with your goals. Growth often requires stepping outside your comfort zone, but it’s in these moments that we discover strength, resilience, and the opportunity to trust God’s plan for our journey.

Podcasts and Resources for Growth

If you’re curious about blogging, becoming an effective leader, or are a mental health intern or therapist wanting to transition into private practice, these are some of the podcasts that helped me when I first started blogging, building my business, and now stepping into consulting. I also learned about podcasting by stepping into a studio and hiring a company to show me the ropes before branching off with Firefly Productions. Here are the podcasts that inspired and equipped me along the way:

If you are just trying to survive, know that there are countless resources available to help. Podcasts, YouTube videos, blogs, and other information can provide guidance and hope. Some great options include Therapy in a Nutshell and The Doctor’s Farmacy. You can even use AI tools to describe your symptoms and request evidence-based, science-backed holistic help. And remember, if you’re in a crisis, dial 988 or go to your nearest emergency room for immediate support.

Bible Verse for Reflection

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10, ESV)

This verse has been a cornerstone of my journey. For a long time, I wrestled with the fear of judgment and the pressure to meet others’ expectations. When I fully embraced the truth of Galatians 1:10, which is my life verse, it shifted my focus to seeking God’s approval above all else. This perspective not only freed me from perfectionism but also grounded my purpose in His will.

It’s a reminder that true freedom and purpose come from serving Christ.

A Prayer for Your Journey

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your unfailing love and for the plans You have for each of us. I pray for every reader who comes across this blog, that they would feel Your presence in their lives. Help them to take the first steps toward healing, courageously lean into the growth You have for them, and trust in Your perfect plan. Remind them that they are never alone and that Your grace is sufficient for every challenge they face. May this year be one of transformation, hope, and drawing closer to You.

Amen.

Final Thoughts

Life is full of challenges, but we don’t have to face them alone. That’s why Jesus came—to walk with us in our struggles, offer hope, and provide the ultimate healing through His love and grace. None of us are perfect, and that’s exactly why we need Him.

Jesus invites us into a relationship where we can lay our burdens at His feet, receive His forgiveness, and step into the purpose He has for our lives. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to turn, know that you are loved beyond measure and that He is with you every step of the way.

This year, I encourage you to seek His presence daily, take steps toward your healing, and trust that God’s plans for you are good. Let’s journey together toward a life of purpose, wellness, and faith.

In Service, Faith, Hope and Love,
