Through the Valley Therapy

"Walking with YOU to Your Mountaintop"
Supervision
Diana's clinical experience:
In 2004 Diana's year-long practicum from NSU gave her the opportunity to serve at
Cross Creek School which is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic
K-12 Broward County Public School where students had to be under psychiatric care to attend.
In this experience, she was the only intern with 8 licensed professionals,
a psychiatrist, and 2 psychiatric nurses.
This is where she began to see that many students who were labeled and disabled
needed a different approach than just managing symptoms or focusing on meds and behavior.
She began to research alternative approaches to mental health at this time.
In 2007 Diana was hired as an independent contracted registered mental health counselor intern at
Friends of Children. FOC was a community mental health non-profit serving underserved
BIPOC communities in their homes and schools throughout Broward County.
She learned how to navigate insurance companies, become her own boss in the mental health field,
and juggle family life. Things that higher education did not prepare her for.
In 2018 she was hired to create the Crisis Intervention Counselor position at
Ascend Academy Charter High School, which is an alternative school in Broward County.
She was the only LMHC on campus who served a school of 200 students and faculty.
In July 2020, the Lord called her to open up Through the Valley Therapy where she worked
during the day at Ascend and in the evenings taking private pay clients.
In September of 2021, she was "let go" from Ascend Academy.
Here is when she realized how the Lord prepared her to walk by faith and not by sight
in her own valley of unchartered trails as she continues to walk toward her mountaintop!
In all these settings the range of diagnosis varied and the focus was primarily on crisis intervention,
teacher training, family counseling, and/or court-ordered therapy.
Areas of Interest:
Individual psychoeducational counseling with an understanding that anxiety and depression
are symptoms and not just diagnoses. Believing that childhood trauma, high ACE scores, poor nutrition,
and lack of spiritual, physical, and mental health knowledge
contributes to these symptoms more than we as a society realize.
Techniques include but are not limited to CBT, Biblical wisdom,
neuroplasticity psychoeducation, limbic retraining, trauma-informed
functional integrative wellness with a spiritual approach.
